Events

Annual Valley Survey: The general public perception of the church is that it is out of touch.  What if we are, and we don’t realize it?  Each year, we will conduct a needs survey of our valley.  This will help us determine if our ministry activities  are relevant and help guide our future efforts to be more productive.  A team (composed of pastor and 1 or 2 others) will set up an information table at key locations in the valley and conduct a three question survey.  We will conduct this survey in March.  If you can help, see the pastor.

Prayer Chain Recruitment: Someone said, “Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance, but tapping into His highest willingness.”  If you would like to participate in something that changes circumstances, affects the future and touches lives to make the world a better place, consider joining the Prayer Chain.  Complete and turn in the prayer Chain Response form (in the bulletin) to tell the pastor you would like to participate.  The deadline to join is the last Sunday of February.

Deacons Meeting: Our regular scheduled Board of Deacons Meeting is on second Thursdays of the month at 3:30pm.  A preliminary agenda is usually available in the pastor’s office on the Wednesday prior to the Board Meeting.

Face Painting Training: In preparation for Whiskey Flat Days, we are training additional face painters.  We will use the Sunday School hour from 9:00am till 10:15am on February 13.  We need all potential face painters present and we need children.

Sunday School: We have a complete teaching staff for our Sunday School and have resumed this vital ministry.  Still, February is one of the busiest months on our calendar… take note of the following schedule changes for this month:
▸ February 6 Sunday School resumes regular class schedule
▸ February 13 Face Painting training during the Sunday School hour
▸ February 20 Sunday School canceled (Whiskey Flat Days activities)
▸ February 27 Sunday School resumes regular class schedule

Whiskey Flat Days: This is the largest of many valley events where literally tens of thousands gather… making this a great community connection event for our church. It is always on President’s Day weekend on February 18-21.  Here’s how we are involved:
▸ Make-a-Bracelet… We will assist Kernville Southern Baptist Church .
▸ Face Painting… Our face painters will set up their booth next to the Make-a-bracelet booth.
▸ Biker’s For Christ… We host Bikers For Christ to enable them to sponsor an evangelistic booth.

Pastor’s Vacation: The Pastor and Chris will take their first week of vacation for 2011… (February 25 – March 1).  We will either be going to Caycous or Bass Lake.  We are always available via cell phone: Pastor Dave at 1-760-223-6911 and Chris at 1-760-887-6536.  Covering our responsibilities while we are away:
• Sunday School (Feb 27) Craig Hayes
• Sunday Morning Sermon (Feb 27) Keith Richardson
• Worship (Feb 27) James Taylor
• Conducting the Service (Feb 27) Shannon Stivers
• Unlocking/Locking (Feb 27) Mike Branam

Annual Heart Walk: The annual Hospital Foundation Annual Heart Walk (Saturday, February 26) is potentially the best fund raiser of the year.  If you want to help support one of the ministries of our church, sign up for a team.  Remember, the only thing that makes this a fund raiser is sponsors… get some!  Here’s how: (1)Form or join a team, (2)Ask people to sponsor you.  The secret to getting sponsors: No one will come to you… you must go to them!
Worker Screening: We have been reminded by the District Office and our insurance carrier to maintain high child safety standards which include: criminal background screening, two adults in each class or group, a safety officer check of classrooms and 100% supervision of play and activities.  Linda Potts has the roster of those screened and those needing screening.  See her TODAY!

Hope for our Valley: The Pastor’s Association is sponsoring a valley-wide prayer meeting on the last Sunday of each month at 6:00pm.  We will pray for the needs of the Kern River Valley, including prayer for our teens, drug and addiction issues, spiritual needs and more.  This month, it is at Grace Chapel on February 27.  We are asking you to join us.

Shut In Ministry: If you have 1 to 4 hours out of your remaining 4768 waking hours this year, join the pastor in a team to present an afternoon Church Service at the Skilled Nursing Facility (Kern Valley Hospital) Sunday March 6 at 4:00pm.  This is an afternoon service starting at 4:00pm ending promptly at 5:00pm.  Children accompanied by parents/guardians are very much appreciated. Because this is ministry, you must have attended New Life Assembly regularly for the last 6 months.

LFTL Banquet: The Light For The Lost Banquet is at First Assembly of God on 4901 California Ave. in Bakersfield on Thursday March 10  at 6:30pm.  The menu includes barbecued steak with all the fixin’s for only $8.00.  Obviously, the meal is too inexpensive to the be fund raiser.  Come prepared to make a pledge.

Deacons Meeting: Our regular scheduled Board of Deacons Meeting is on second Thursdays of the month at 3:30pm.  A preliminary agenda is usually available in the pastor’s office on the Wednesday prior to the Board Meeting.

DST: Spring forward…Fall back…. By act of Congress, Daylight Savings Time begins at 2:00am on the Second Sunday of March.  This means that on this Saturday evening, June 12, before getting to bed, you should set your clocks FORWARD one hour!  As Benjamin Franklin said, “Early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”  Get to bed and hour earlier so that you can make it to Sunday School an hour earlier.

This month, it is at Highland Methodist Church on March 27. We are asking you to join us.
