Face Painting

.

.
Face painting, sometimes called cheek art (painting the cheek or arm rather than fullface face painting), has become very popular in western countries, and in particular, the United States, though it has it’s roots in China.  Why is it that face painting has become so popular?
  • First, face painting is therapeutic for both the painter and the child.
  • Secondly, all children crave attention (adults too).  For five minutes, the child has the complete attention of the face painter, which is esteem building and builds a connection between painter and child.
  • Third, having your face painted is fun.  What’s wrong with that?

While these may not represent the child’s greatest needs, to a child, these are the needs he feels (aka felt needs).  Jesus often ministered to people’s felt needs so that the needy one would open his heart to the real need, that is, his spiritual need.  In the same way, face painting can open a heart to receive ministry for a person’s spiritual needs.

Our purpose is: To bring joy to children, share the love of God and serve our community. Here are our six ministry goals:

  1. To share the love of God.
  2. To connect with parents.
  3. To elevate the visibility or our church in our community.
  4. To further our kids ministries.
  5. To create good memories associated with the Christian faith.
  6. To involve people in ministry.

Whiskey Flat Days

Rubber Ducky Races

A well-kept secret of our valley is the annual Rubber Ducky Races. It’s a good family event. Our New Life Face Painters were invited to paint faces for this event. In addition to those coming for the Rubber Ducky Races, white water rafters, who finished their adventure, lined up for face painting as well. Our most recent video of this event was shot in low resolution, so we apologize for the low quality.

Valley Fest

The Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce is sponsors the annual Valley Fest on Saturday.  This year it was on  October, at the Kissack Ball Field in Lake Isabella.  We had 6 dedicated face painting stations for the 6 hours of the event. It was a joy to share the Good News using the Colors of the Gospel.

Desi Faire

Our face painters had the opportunity to share the love of Christ, along with several Bakersfield Assembly of God churches, at the second annual Desi Faire in Bakersfield. The people of India are interesting and wonderful people. We painted faces, shared the love of God and connected with some of these Sikhs from India.
