Paintball

About Paintball

Some say the extreme sport of paintball evolved from cattle marking paintball guns. It may have happened like this:  Out on the range, at the end of a long day of separating and marking cattle with a marker designed for that purpose, one tired and cranky cowboy decided to pop his fellow cowpoke with the paintball gun.  Then, what ensued, was the first paintball war.  Who can say if this is really how it happened.  But now, with modern safety equipment, paintball is among the safest of sports… safer than soccer, softball and skating… with only 3 injuries per 1000.  Most of those injuries are from running, tripping and falling.

An Outreach?

Either before the games begins, or at the end of the day, we will  have a short devotional and prayer.  The reason Kern Valley Paintball was established is to provide Christian fellowship and to give opportunity Christians to share their passion for paintball, life and faith with others.  You are encouraged to bring interested friends who need to experience the love of God!

Our Next Game

You will need to supply your own paintball marker, paintballs and CO2. Our games are almost always on Saturdays starting at 10:00am and ending about 2:00pm, so you may want to bring a lunch. During winter months, games are pending favorable weather… a go/no go will be issue on the Wednesday prior, based on the weather report. A final location will also be decided by that Wednesday. So that we can communicate with potential players, let us know if you plan to participate by using the response form located in the church entry area, or use the form below. Our upcoming games are tentatively planned for:

  • December 18, 2010
  • February 5, 2011
  • April 2, 2011
  • May 21, 2011
  • June 25, 2011
  • August 13, 2011
  • September 24, 2011
  • November 12, 2011

Check the weather forecast below. If rain is in the forecast, we will call the game by Wednesday prior to the scheduled game. In this way, you can better plan your weekend.

Paintball Games

Sniper:
A pre-assigned team takes time to hide in good positions in the field 45 minutes to an hour before the announced starting time.  This team must arrange ahead of time, must have their own chronograph and must have lots of patience.  At the start of the game, all others will seek out the snipers, being careful to not get picked off one by one.  This game is the same as Search and Destroy, except the snipers have abundant time to hide in good positions.  This game will last 45 minutes, or until one team has no players remaining.

Capture the Flag:
Two teams (Red and the Blue) try to capture the opposing team’s flag and bring it back to their base. The first team to do so, wins.

POW:
Two teams (Red and the Blue) try to capture opposing team members, and make them POWs. When a player is taken out, his captors take him to a POW camp (an pre-marked area), where his team will try to rescue him by tagging him. At the end of game (20 minutes), the team with the most POWs in captivity wins.

Defender:
One team (Red or Blue) is assigned to defend a fortification, while the other team tries to take it. The assaulting team can either force the other team to retreat, or take them out one by one. The team in control of the fortification at the end of game (20 minutes), wins.

Search and Destroy:
One team hides and waits for the opposing team who tries to find each team member and take them out.  Usually, at the end of play, the teams will switch roles (20 minutes).

Protect the President:
The Secret Service defends the president while they attempt to escort him from point A to point B. If he makes it, the Secret Service wins.  The Secrete Service has 20 minutes to accomplish their mission.  If they fail, the opposing team wins.

Safety Rules

  1. Illegal drugs, alcohol, or weapons will be confiscated.  Any illegal activity may be referred to law enforcement agencies.
  2. No Bunkering (close range shots). Our mercy rule requires that if you come within 20 feet of an opponent, you MUST give him/her a chance to surrender.  If he/she refuses, you can take your shot.
  3. Paintball quality safety face masks must be worn on the field when game is on. Replace your lens as needed. Never play with a cracked or broken lens.  Most serious paintball injuries occur when this rule is disregarded.  There will be people of all ages playing paintball with us.  While many may feel they have the ability to for themselves when it is safe to remove safety equipment, we require face masks to be worn on the field while a game is on.  If we make an exception to this rule for those with good judgment, those without good judgement may think it is safe to remove a face mask when indeed, it is not safe… so, NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.
  4. For safety reasons, keep your feet on the ground while paint balling.  Do not snipe from the branches of a tree.  Do not use motor vehicles.
  5. Except for the necessary chronograph checks on paintball markers, the staging area is a no-shoot zone.  When in the no-shoot zone, use barrel plugs, keep your safety on, and point the gun barrel down.
  6. Paintball markers (guns) must be field chronographed at 300 feet per second or less before the start of the game.
  7. In the event of an injury, the referee will stop the game, and clear the field, so that first aid (if needed) can be applied.
  8. Signed release forms are required for participation.

General Rules of Play

  1. Polite and Christian behavior is expected at all times.  Foul language and obscene gestures are not allowed.
  2. Leave a minimum footprint. You will help pack out all trash.  Do not paint trees or rocks unnecessarily.  Do not dig bunkers, holes or trenches.  Do not leave any trash on the playing field.
  3. Cooperation with the referees is required at all times.  No shooting the referees!
  4. A single wet hit that leaves a quarter sized paint mark, anywhere on the body, you are out.  Dry hits (unbroken paint balls), splatters, and hits to the gun or hopper, don’t count.
  5. If you leave the field for any reason, including malfunctioning marker (gun) or if you run out of air or ammo, you are OUT for the duration of the present game.
  6. When you are taken out, you may not communicate with your team, share or ammo, or give away the positions of members of the opposing team.  You may, however, share information, air and ammo while you are still in the game.
  7. Unless allowed by the rules of a specific game, all players must come in to the staging area between games.  This will allow time to reload, re-chronograph and listen to the instructions for the next game.
  8. Each game has specific rules of play.  By your participation, you agree to abide by these rules, and any judgement calls of the referees.
